Speaking at Amity university here, Kakodkar said Indians are lacking in fields of research because they "work as individuals and not as teams".
Those who are in teaching think that doing research simultaneously would affect their teaching efficiency, and those doing research think that teaching would take away their concentration and focus from research work.
He suggested that teaching and research has to be aligned to enrich the quality of both research and teaching. He also asked educational institutes to work together with industry to mutually benefit each other.
Kakodkar, DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), was conferred with honorary D.Sc for his exceptional vision, commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry, and continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.
Meanwhile, Amity University conferred 4,474 students with degrees and diplomas during its annual convocation.
